Separ 2000 is a new generation of fuel filters.
The new filter SEPAR 2000 is an effective system for the separation of water and solid contaminants from fuel.
The presence of water and solid contaminants may result in high wear and tear of fuel pumps and injectors, which, on its part, brings about reduced reliability and more expensive maintenance and repairs.



Mode of operation of SEPAR 2000
The process of water separation and filtration takes place according to a new, unique and patented method, which is applied throughout all of the product range. The small physical size in combination with preserved values of the flow forms only one of the advantages of the SEPAR 2000 series.
SEPAR 2000 is designated for being installed on the suction side of the fuel system, between the fuel feed tank and the suction pump. The fuel enters the filter either through port A or through port B depending on which of these two ports is more convenient for installation. The port which is not used is closed and sealed off by way of a special plug.

  1. From the inlet port, fuel flows through the interior vane system which imparts a circular motion to the fuel.

  2. Still in the circular motion, the fuel reaches the bowl section, where, due to the centrifugal motion, the water droplets and the solid contaminants (those that are larger than 30 microns in size) are forced to the wall of the bowl, eventually settling onto the bottom of the bowl.

  3. At this stage the fuel has to pass through the vane system positioned on the "outside" of the central housing. Due to the differing length of the vanes and the twofold rapid change of the fuel flow direction, the smaller water droplets and the finer solid particles settle onto the vanes. These settlements tend to agglomerate and when they become heavy enough, they fall down to the bottom of the bowl. Already at this point the major portion of any contaminants in the fuel has been separated.

  4. Just below the filter element, the flow area of the filter is increased significantly, thus reducing the fuel flow rate. This calming effect allows even smaller water droplets and solid particulates to fall out settling onto the inner surfaces of the housing, forming larger droplets which eventually fall down into the bottom bowl by gravity.
    Due to the pre-separation process, which is described above, the major portion of water and solid contaminants that are present in the fuel go either into the bowl or onto the inner surfaces of the filter, thus greatly extending the operating life of the filter element.

  5. The final filtration of the remaining water and solid contaminants that are still contained in the fuel is effected by the replaceable filter element. These filter elements are produced from a special filter media and are available in different pore sizes.
    The clean, filtrated fuel leaves via the outlet ports C or D. The port which is not used is closed and sealed off by way of a special plug.


The process of self cleaning
After turning off the engine, you should open the bleed valve, which is located on top of the filter lid (if the fuel feed tank is situated above the upper part of the SEPAR filter, and the fuel tank has a fuel feed valve, the latter should be closed). Open the drain valve which is connected to the bowl section. The clean fuel, which is situated between the lid of the filter and the clean side of the filter element, flushes back through the filter element and washes off its filter media cleaning it from the water and solid contaminants that have already agglomerated. Concurrently with it, all the contaminants found in the bowl section are carried away by the fuel that is draining from the bowl section. After the drain valve has been closed, the fuel feed valve should be opened and the fuel system should be primed. The bleed valve should be shut off and now the engine can be re-started.
If it is impossible for the engine to reach its maximum revolutions, it is necessary to replace the filter element.



Installation of the filter

The installation of SEPAR 2000 is extremely easy to perform. The SEPAR 2000 should be installed on the suction side of the fuel system, between the fuel feed tank and the fuel pump.

  • Install the SEPAR 2000 filter in an easily accessible position. If a filter has already been installed on the suction side, it has to be removed.

  • The SEPAR 2000 housing has two inlet ports and two outlet ports for the purpose of giving various options on the installation position.

  • The most appropriate position for the filter is at the same height as the fuel pump. However, if the top of the fuel tank is above the filter, an additional "full flow" shut-off ball valve should be fitted before the filter, so that the fuel flow can be shut off in case of changing the filter element.

  • In those applications where the fuel tank is below the filter, it is still advisable to install an additional "full flow" shut-off ball valve to prevent fuel draining back into the fuel tank.

  • In those cases where, after filter installation on the system, there is insufficient positive head of fuel, it is necessary to remove the filter lid and fill with fuel in order to assist in priming the system.

  • Avoid sharp 90 degree bends on the fuel system piping as well as any reductions in the internal diameter of fuel piping as these increase pressure drop in the system.

  • Use only fittings with O-ring seals. Do not use hollow bored screws with copper rings because they are difficult to seal and result in a high pressure drop.

  • A clear space of at least 60 mm should be provided above the lid of the filter. This space is necessary in cases of replacement of the filter element.

Important:
Only clean diesel fuel should be used for cleaning the plastic bowls, because certain cleaning substances may have a detrimental effect upon the plastic material.
